First Day Work on Quilt

OK…today I’m starting work on the quilt for “Tillie’s Story” that depicts her father’s arrival at Castle Garden in 1874. You can see in the sketch a six-year-old boy sitting on a pile of luggage in the foreground looking at the American flag.  My plan is to replace the photo of the steamship Teutonia that he arrived on with this quilt.

The size and fabric colors are dictated by the size of the others that are already completed (view in the link to “Tillie’s Story” above).  However, I do not have, and cannot find, anymore of some of the fabrics that I used in the eleven other quilts, so I will make do with similar colors and prints.  I hope to have the background and some of the front done by tomorrow.  So we’ll see how much I can get done.  I’m also noodling two other ideas one a political comment another about being of a certain age….more on those later.

About QuiltToonist

I'm a news junkie and have opinions about everything! I consider myself a folk artist because I have no formal art training and use the sewing skills I learned many moons ago to accomplish the fiber art I seem to have to express.
