Ah, love … Interracial Pillow Talk

One early morning it just popped into my head to make this QuiltToon subject – “He loves me .. She loves me not.”  Then along the way, I made it an interracial, man/woman, couple – probably because I notice many, many such couples when I’m out and about.  This morning I found the following at the Pew Research site ( Pew Social Trends: “Marrying Out” June 15, 2010):  “A record 14.6% of all new marriages in the United States in 2008 were between spouses of a different race or ethnicity from one another. This compares to 8.0% of all current marriages regardless of when they occurred.”  And furthermore, according to the study, more African American women want to marry within their own race than other people.

I made this QuiltToon™  for use as a pillow…something I had not done before.  The QuiltToon is 22″ X 15.”   It’s machine pieced, hand appliqued, machine and hand embroidered.   Fusible webbing was used, as well as, a small amount of beading.  Completed May 8, 2011

About QuiltToonist

I'm a news junkie and have opinions about everything! I consider myself a folk artist because I have no formal art training and use the sewing skills I learned many moons ago to accomplish the fiber art I seem to have to express.
