Abandoned But Not Forgotten

Ruty Gate editedThis QuiltToon is another attempt to incorporate photos into my quilted pieces.  The photo was taken at the back of an old building.  I loved the play of the rusted iron with the vines and how their colors complemented each other. Free motion stitching was done on the photo which had been printed on fabric.  Free motion stitching is really a scary thing for me…because mistakes can ruin a whole piece.  The piece is 10.5″ X 13″.  It is machine pieced and top-stitched.  It will be framed in a shadow box so that the piece is not “flattened” under glass.

Completed December 2012.   The Photo and Text © 2012

About QuiltToonist

I'm a news junkie and have opinions about everything! I consider myself a folk artist because I have no formal art training and use the sewing skills I learned many moons ago to accomplish the fiber art I seem to have to express.
