Pigs Are Flying

Pigs are flyingThis QuiltToon was made in response to two “challenges” — one was from my art quilt group: make a monochromatic quilt, any size, from the color of thread we each had drawn from a bag (mine was salmon color); I coupled this with the desire to make a piece for my grandson’s school which has a flying pig as it’s “mascot.” (The reason the Toledo School for the Arts has a flying pig as its mascot is because early on the school administrators were told by an administrator from Toledo Public Schools that the arts school would be successful “when pigs fly.” Well, it’s very successful…highest ratings from the state, recognition from Washington, etc.
The QuiltToon is 12″ X 12″. Machine pieced and thread painted. Hand appliqued and embroidered.
Completed Oct. 2013.

About QuiltToonist

I'm a news junkie and have opinions about everything! I consider myself a folk artist because I have no formal art training and use the sewing skills I learned many moons ago to accomplish the fiber art I seem to have to express.

I used to say that to my son all of the time. When he went away to college, he told me he was going to learn to make pigs fly because a whole lot of cool stuff was going to happen then! So, hope springs eternal!
